Willie Lin and Chris Abani read Tuesday night between performances by Tatsu Aoki’s Reduction Quartet at Drinking Gourd: An Evening of Poetry and Music.
The event celebrated Willie Lin, the winner of this year’s Drinking Gourd Poetry Prize, a first-book award for poets of color.
Poetry Foundation Program Director Steve Young demonstrates that Lin’s book, Instructions for Folding (Northwestern, 2015) is the perfect size to fit in a jacket pocket.
The Reduction Quartet features Tatsu Aoki on Upright Bass, Ed WIlkerson on Saxophone and Didgeridoo, Jamie Kempers on Cello, and Kioto Aoki on Taiko Drum. If you missed our program, they’re also playing at Constellation on Saturday).
Hope to see you here next Tuesday at The Open Door Readings: January, presenting Columbia College’s Jenny Boully and her student Naomi Washer along with Oklahoma City University’s Quraysh Ali Lansana and his student David R. Bublitz.
